The Decision to Flee Came Suddenly, or Maybe Not
We had possibly already escaped and not known it. Stepping outside, into a new realm of music, film, and art production. We had escaped to the notion that art for arts sake, and community supported positive construction, production, and reinforcement could too become digitized streamlets of ones and zeros-if rock and roll and the communications revolution can indeed “get down” in binary code. But then where does a ragtag community of beautiful artists, noise makers, and sexy filmmakers that work at unmentionables and an assortment of hack jobs to sustain some compromised vision fit into the binary series of business, business, profit, business, that the interweb and mainstream media have come to support, nurture and grow?
Of course that is not all true, the Internet has brought individual production and acquisition of information to the fingertips of any joe jane little Macbook or Powermac Macpro or iphone touting little hippster. However you cut it, communication has exploded, the media revolution has been on for a while now and I am sorry to say that most of you missed it; companies like Google have been fighting for net-neutrality against other companies like AT&T for some time now. Not that Google is necessarily in it for the little guy. Your own personal government is on to this scheme and its crazy series of tubes…So how does that relate to you, or me, and what was I just yacking about anyways? Net-neutrality…pah. What do you say? You don’t know what that is? But you do and you should. Read about it.
So once again the question comes back to you, and me; it always does. Information’s blow’n up y’all; I mentioned the Macbook, and there is this other kind of book called Facebook, and someone else’s space, and oh yeah that is owned by Rupert Murdoch, so there are all these different online orgies going down, and I don’t mean porn, because that is still probably the largest online industry, but rather these new community spaces and people popping. The gum that holds us all together is now some fiber optic cable and thanks to stuff like Skype two radical dudes or janes can likewise get off to some radical discourse from the ends of the earth.
Which brings us back to Santa Barbara…kind of. This very strange, in a normal sort of way community has fashioned over the last days a real upstanding pocket of art organizing and music and happy spaces on the down low. Not for the sake of the down low, but because well intending communities are often times marginalized due to content. I guess. All these nifty little places got tools now to get their own piece of those digits, that matrix like stream of numbers that are putting these words in front of your face. I just pictured you staring back. It is indeed a new evolution, and it is media in a whole new way, but its open, and here, for everyone to utilize and fondle and love consensually.
Now enter One Night Music. We want to be fondled and touched, and nurtured and grown with the right good values of community involvement, positivity, and good old hardcore creativity. Take advantage of us, we are like some sort of dominating muse to rouse the artistic spirit and shake the world.
