One Night Music Continues in Santa Barbara
In one week from today, I will pack my belongings into the back of my brother’s pickup truck and leave Santa Barbara for Paradise. Paradise, CA that is – a town located 8 miles from Chico, CA (about 1.5 hours directly north of Sacramento). There I will spend the summer and fall in a small cabin. My hope is to cultivate my own music and spiritual growth within the context of solitude. I am also excited to start an awesome garden, ride my bike, read, and build a community of friends. After my stay in Paradise, I intend to move to the Bay Area to be near my father, brother, sister, and girlfriend.
I have had a lot of people ask me about the fate of One Night Music in these plans. What’s going to happen to One Night Music when I, the Founder of the project, move to Paradise? The quick answer is nothing – it will continue how it’s going. The long answer needs a bit of explanation.
A One Night Music Producer is one who is responsible for coordinating One Night Music sessions from start (bringing together the artist, filmmaker, audio engineer, illustrator, and other contributors) to the finish (putting the final product online). I am a One Night Music Producer. The ideal vision of One Night Music is to have self-contained Producers in different locations working to bring new music to One Night Music. When I leave for Paradise, I will halt my work as a One Night Music Producer and focus instead on other work for the project including development and post-production of sessions that have already been recorded. I will likely not produce any new sessions for the time I’m in Paradise. However, the ideal vision of One Night Music as described above, is already starting to take shape. Elia Vargas is now a One Night Music producer creating sessions as he moves in his vagabond ways up and down the Golden State. Megan Sullivan (of One night Music fame for booking sessions and helping with other various logistics) will become One Night Music Producer in Santa Barbara when I leave. This means that One Night Music will not be leaving Santa Barbara – it will continue! Additionally, we have a third friend who will be coming on board as a Producer in Santa Cruz over the summer. This is all to say that One Night Music will continue to flourish in Santa Barbara and other locations.
