Michael Conway at the One Night Music Launch Party
Mike Conway, featuring cellist Betsy Wise, just kicked off our One Night Music launch party with some stunningly beautiful songs. Here is a clip of Michael performing tonight. The full set will be posted in high quality audio and video to our website in about two weeks.
New Live Music Venue in Santa Barbara Comes to Life
One Night Music is live. What a glorious moment. Initially a simple concept as a way for me to manifest my passion for music production, One Night Music has turned into a project that now boasts six amazingly talented contributors. We are a team of artists defining a new type of music venue.
One Night Music is a space that provides musicians the chance to record high quality audio and video sessions of their work for free—an opportunity that they may not otherwise have. These recordings are then made available to a vast audience through our website. The media revolution of the internet combined with the relative ease of recording high quality audio and video was bound to eventually capture music and take it for an exciting ride. Well, this is what it looks like.
My visions for where One Night Music can go are grand. I envision a new kind of music community, one that harbors the talents of contributors who record, film, illustrate, photograph, and book artists not because they are looking for money, but because they thrive off of the concept of creating this new space; of creating opportunity where it might not otherwise exist. Sure, this opportunity is fabricated in providing musicians the chance to get quality recordings and publicize their work for free using our resources, but it also fabricates itself in the ability it provides music enthusiasts to find new music that they may not otherwise find.
The Decision to Flee Came Suddenly, or Maybe Not
We had possibly already escaped and not known it. Stepping outside, into a new realm of music, film, and art production. We had escaped to the notion that art for arts sake, and community supported positive construction, production, and reinforcement could too become digitized streamlets of ones and zeros-if rock and roll and the communications revolution can indeed “get down” in binary code. But then where does a ragtag community of beautiful artists, noise makers, and sexy filmmakers that work at unmentionables and an assortment of hack jobs to sustain some compromised vision fit into the binary series of business, business, profit, business, that the interweb and mainstream media have come to support, nurture and grow?
One Night Music’s First Session
We are proud to announce that Santa Barbara singer songwriter Meghan Lehman will be joining us for our first One Night Music session. Meghan will share her talents with us on Saturday December 6th. She will be accompanied simply by her guitar. You can hear Meghan’s music at http://www.myspace.com/meghanlehman. We also have a new member on the One Night Music team. Elia Vargas, who has just returned from a long journey in South America will be filming the live set! We have contemplated the addition of video to this project, but would have never dreamed that our first set would be filmed. Elia just happened to be back in Santa Barbara at the right time.
